New Adobe Lightroom Products
Adobe has recently announced three changes to the Lightroom / Photoshop suite of products used by many CIPC members to store and edit their photos.
Briefly, Adobe announced
- The traditional Adobe Lightroom Version 6 desktop product will no longer be updated and is effectively being discontinued at the end of 2017. CIPC members not interested in new Lightroom features can probably continue to use their copy of Lightroom for another year or two.
- The existing subscription-based desktop product suite, Lightroom CC, is being renamed Lightroom Classic CC. For most CIPC members currently using traditional Lightroom or Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic CC is the recommended replacement product. Unfortunately, Adobe has confused the migration from the old to new products by introducing a completely new product (below) and reusing the Lightroom CC name for the new product.
- A new, cloud-based product suite is being introduced and aggressively marketed by Adobe. The new product suite is being called Lightroom CC. The reuse of the old Lightroom CC name for an entirely new, cloud-based (rather than desktop-based) product has caused very significant confusion among existing customers. Since the decision to move from a desktop-based to a cloud-based product is extremely difficult to reverse, CIPC members are warned to be very careful when upgrading from Lightroom Version 6 or an existing Lightroom CC subscription. The logical upgrade path for most CIPC members is to LIghtroom Classic CC not Lightroom CC.
