CIPC FIELD TRIP – CENTER FOR BIRDS OF PREY, AWENDAW, SC FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2022 Hours: 7:45 am – 4 pm
Asian Brown Wood Owl
Bring your camera, long lenses, and tripod if you have one. Your interested spouse or friend is also welcome to come. We’re going to the Center for Birds of Prey in Awendaw, SC. Drive takes 2¼ hours from Callawassie. We plan to arrive when the Center opens at 10 am. At 10:30 am we will enjoy a flight demonstration in their open-air amphitheater. Description from the website: “Watch hawks, falcons, owls, eagles, kites, and vultures soar above the flying field….The natural behavior of raptors soaring, gliding and diving in close proximity to audiences young and old represent a most unique and memorable learning experience.”
Flight Demonstration: Starts at 10:30 am, lasts one hour. After the demonstration there are exhibits to see of other birds, some exotic and some usual suspects. It’s a fascinating center, and well worth the drive.
We will find a restaurant to have a late lunch, or early dinner on the way home. No food is available on site.
Cost: Adults - $22; Seniors - $21; AAA Members - $20 [+ tax] Time: Leave Callawassie at 7:45 am. Arrive home around 4 pm.
If you are interested in this field trip I recommend you purchase your tickets ASAP through their website: www.thecenterforbirdsofprey.org. Let me know that you are coming by email, or call my land line and leave a message. We will arrange car pooling. Check out the Center’s website for additional information. As always, contact me if you have any questions.
GARDEN CLUB DONATION OPPORTUNITY We have an opportunity that needs our immediate attention. The Callawassie Garden Club is asking members of CIPC to consider donating a framed image and/or a portrait session for their upcoming auction, October 22. The Garden Club uses the proceeds of their bi-annual auction for projects to improve and beautify our community, including targeted plantings, landscaping, and holiday decorations at the Clubhouse. Their auction is well attended, always sells out, and the Auction Chair assures me that donated items sell!. We have many new members who would welcome the opportunity to purchase an image that represents the lowcountry - their new home. Tickets to the event will be on sale in the very near future.
1. First, here are the details and requirements of the framed image. Note that donated images will be hung on our exhibit standards or placed on easels around the Dogwood Room, making certain they are artfully presented.
- High quality, “wall worthy”, image ready for hanging - Subject matter should be the lowcountry (scenery, sunsets/sunrises, birds, wildlife, flowers, etc.) - Suggested image sizes: 11x14 inches or 16x20 inches - Can be printed on photo paper, or canvas - If image is printed on photo paper, glass is required as well as a mat and frame (adding approximately 3” on each side for the frame equalling 14x17 inches or 19x23 inches) - Photos printed on canvas can have a floating frame but that is not required - Your discrete watermark would be encouraged - You would be welcome to suggest what the opening bid should be
2. Second, here are the details of the portrait session.
If you love taking photos of families or animals, consider donating your time to take an image of a family reunion or a Callawassie pet. Your responsibility would be to donate your time and expertise to take the photo. The person who accepts your offer would be responsible for setting up the event date and details with the photographer. As the photographer, you would be responsible for providing a digital image to the buyer, who would then be responsible for getting the photo printed.
Please contact me as soon as possible, and let me know if you would like to contribute either an image or a portrait session. You are welcome to submit more than one image. As soon as you select your image(s) let me know the title. And finally your framed image should be delivered to my house (10 Osprey Circle) by October 12.
I hope you consider donating a piece of your wall-worthy art. It is for a worthwhile cause, and will be greatly appreciated by the Callawassie Garden Club.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to call or contact me via email.
