PHOTOGRAPHY’S LAST CENTURY: THE ANN TENENBAUM AND THOMAS H. LEE COLLECTION
This exhibition will celebrate the remarkable ascendancy of photography in the last century through the extraordinary collecting achievements of Ann Tenenbaum and Thomas H. Lee. Their passion for art was inspired and encouraged by the collecting of Ms. Tenenbaum’s late parents, Lorlee and Arnold Tenenbaum, who were champions of Telfair Museums and cultural leaders across the Savannah community. Come see more than 80 masterpiece photographs by some of the medium’s greatest practitioners, including works by Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Ilse Bing, and Man Ray; Edward Weston, Walker Evans, Helen Levitt, and William Eggleston; Diane Arbus, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, and Mickalene Thomas. This selection is particularly notable for its breadth and depth of works by women artists, its sustained interest in the nude, and its focus on artists’ beginnings. Through iconic images and rare, experimental works, the exhibition demonstrates the many expressive directions and ever-widening possibilities within this beautiful and accessible medium.
